Movie Trailer Review – Tucker and Dale Versus Evil (2009) – 4 Stars

Movies are usually told from one angle, but did you ever want to hear the other side of the story? Maybe it’s just a big misunderstanding? That’s the premise of ‘Tucker and Dale Versus Evil’, an independent film by Eli Craig, just waiting to be picked up by a studio. Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine are two country boys who accidentally scare some city campers, but get a surprise themselves when the campers start dying. Who’s out to get whom, and who’s just there to help; provides the backbone for what looks like it could be a very funny movie.

Movie Trailer Review – The Tournament (2009) – 4 Stars

Every so often you hear about a movie that sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun. That’s exactly what I thought when I head about ‘The Tournament’. The premise is simple: a 24 hour battle to the death between thirty of the world’s best assassins, all competing for ten million dollars and the chance to be known as the greatest hit-man. Throw in Robert Carlyle as the innocent bystander forced to fight for his life and it looks like a fantastic combination of ‘Death Race’ and ‘Wanted’. Check it out yourself, but I’m looking forward to it.

Movie Trailer Review – Morris: A Life With Bells On (2009) – 3.5 Stars

If you loved ‘Confetti’, ‘Kenny’ or ‘Best in Show’, then strap on your laughing gear and check out the trailer for ‘Morris: A Life With Bells On’. This mockumentary follows the fortunes of Derecq Twist and his Morris Dancing troupe, Millsham Morris. Derecq is a Morris dancer to the core, but he also believes in innovation, an agenda he pushes through his invention of “Extreme Morris”. But how will the Morris Circle feel about Extreme Morris, and what will that mean for Millsham Morris? But most importantly, will Derecq ever complete the “Threeple Hammer Damson”, the cornerstone of Extreme Morris?

Movie Trailer Review – Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) – 4.5 Stars

I’d be hard pressed looking past “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” as the 2009 movie that I’m most looking forward to as a pure spectacle. And neither the latest full trailer nor the initial teaser make me think this film will disappoint. Apparently when Steven Spielberg saw a preview of this film he described it as “f***ing awesome!” And if anyone’s qualified to judge a movie like this, it’s him. The trailer shows a great combination of more robots than the first film, and certainly more action. There even seems to be a bit of character development. I can’t wait!

Movie Trailer Review – The Hurt Locker (2008) – 4.5 Stars

Kathryn Bigelow has been relatively quite since directing ‘Point Break’ back in 1991. And being a big fan of that, I was excited to see the trailer for her latest film, ‘The Hurt Locker’, released today. The trailer shows an incredibly suspenseful story about a bomb diffuser (Renner) in Iraq – something I’d imagine being an incredibly suspenseful job. The trailer has the perfect blend of action, character development, and a taste of the story to come. ‘The Hurt Locker’ has had limited release at film festivals but I’m really looking forward to seeing it when it makes it to Australia.
