Product Review – Bazaar Gourmet Pizza Bases – 4 Stars

I don’t know whether I’d call myself a ‘connoisseur’ of pre-made pizza bases, but I’ve certainly made quite a few home made pizzas in my time. Often, pre-made bases will end up doughy and too soggy, or will be too thin and crisp to the point of crumbling. The Bazaar bases, on the other hand, manage to be both thin, so you can fully appreciate the toppings, whilst also holding in the moisture and not cracking. The size is also a plus, as they’re bigger than a lot of other ‘gourmet’ bases that are based around a pita bread stock.

Product Review – IKEA Bestå Bookshelves – 3.5 Stars

When I was getting my new apartment all sorted, I was going to do my best to avoid Ikea furniture. But when you take into account looks, price, and functionality, the Bestå shelving system is pretty good. Stick with either the walnut or black-brown colour, as the white version looks like tacky shop fittings. It was really easy to put together (the hardest part was getting the boxes into my car) and it’s surprisingly sturdy for a self assembled piece. But be sure to buy an extra shelf, as the four that it comes with makes for really big gaps.

Product Review – Rubik’s Mirror Blocks – 3 Stars

I’ll admit that I’ve been a Rubik’s Cube fan for a few years now. The Rubik’s Mirror Blocks is a new take on the puzzle, with all faces having the same colour, but the slices aren’t even. This way, each individual block is a different shape, and you only know where they go by size. It’s solved the same way as a standard cube, but the size metric makes an interesting change. It’s certainly not as pure, and I think I’ll get bored with it quicker than with the standard cube, but for the moment, it’s a lot of fun.

Food Review – Continental Cup A Soup Xtra Full ‘Smoky Beef ‘N Bacon’ – 0 Stars

Here’s the story. The dusty brown powder goes into the mug like anthrax cut with topsoil. You add the water and the soup turns to the dirty, lumpy brown of dog poo after a thunderstorm (sorry for the lack of subtlety, but that’s what it’s like). The noodles don’t go soft, and what I think are supposed to be croutons look like torn up cardboard. The whole thing has the acidic smell of Domestos on a BBQ that hasn’t been used for a year. The taste? Can’t tell you. I’d tipped it down the sink before I got that far.
