Meme Review – Which X are you? Quiz (Facebook) – 1.5 Stars

In general, I don’t have a problem with this meme. What I do have a problem with is that there’s no way to escape it. If Facebook had an option to “Hide all quiz posts”, then I’d do that, and you’d be welcome to find out which My Little Pony you are. In a post back in mid-march, I jokingly mentioned that I was expecting these things to get a little out of hand, and that’s happened. People get sick of things easily if they can’t avoid them, so in order to save itself, Facebook needs to manage this problem.

Meme Review – Mr. Men Friends (Facebook) – 3 Stars

The ability to tag friends in images is adding a whole new dimension to the “Most likely to…” meme. It’s making things easy to visualise, easy to share, easy to notify those that have been categorised, and easy for each of them to categorise their friends in turn. The concept isn’t original, though, so it’s lost points there. It does, however, lend itself to interpretation and innovation. So far I’ve seen the original version, a Disney version, an anime version, and a computer game character version. I’m just waiting for “Which famous political leader of the 19th Century are you?”

Meme Review - 25 Random Things about me… (Facebook) - 4 Stars

I’m not usually a fan of memes, but this has been capturing so much attention I had to comment. And as far as these things go, it’s one of the good ones. These things have been around for as long as people have been short of something to blog about, but at least on Facebook the potential audience is (somewhat) controlled. Plus, you’re learning some new things about your friends, rather than a stranger on a random blog. Plus, the 25 people tagging system is a big enough number that, chances are, someone that is tagged will continue the chain.
