Brilliantly mindless and wonderfully crude, ‘BASEketball’ tells the story of two childhood friends inventing a new sport and then resisting the temptations that come with the associated fame. Directed by David Zucker (creator of ‘The Naked Gun’), based on a game that he used to play with friends, you can tell that it’s also been heavily influenced (apparently as soon as they were cast, they added a new character) by stars Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of ‘South Park’. With bad taste jokes abounding and sharp comic timing from all, you’ll want to watch this fantastic movie again.

Note, that while I’m reviewing Baraki as a restaurant, and it’s often listed on the web as a restaurant – it’s really a bar. So while they take dinner bookings, be aware that you’ll be sitting at a table, knife and fork in hand, surrounded by people mingling and drinking rum and coke. It’s not a problem if you’re cool with that, as they serve really great food. The affordable wine list perfectly supports the innovative Greek tapas, with delights such as char-grilled spiced octopus, haloumi with red apple sorbet, tender lamb meatballs in sweet tomato sugo, and gourmet mini souvlakettes.

How could you go wrong with harissa-spiced calamari, sweet potato falafels, fried whole school prawns, and a spit-roasted lamb, rocket and mint yoghurt pizza? The answer is, once you get a table here, you can’t. Mecca Bah don’t accept bookings so getting your hands on a table at can be tough, especially as they don’t have an effective way to handle the queues of walk-ins. We were lucky to get a seat quickly, and the aforementioned food and a nice bottle of shiraz made for a great dining experience. It is a brilliant place to experience unique flavours.

When I booked at Ladro for an early dinner on a Thursday, I was told, “I can give you a table from 6.30pm to 8 o’clock.” Hmmm… The venue is great, with bold colours and starkly minimalistic décor, and fantastic pizzas to match. They’re classically Italian with an innovative take (think: mozzarella, roast cauliflower, caramelised onion, and taleggio). The only problem was that, knowing we were dining under a deadline, I never felt I could relax. We ordered pizzas and wine as soon as we were asked, and (watching the clock carefully) only just made it out by 8 o’clock.

There aren’t many shows in the action-comedy-spy-drama genre at the moment, but even if there were, I think ‘Chuck’ would still be one of the best. Season two recalls the first season’s character chemistry, sharp dialogue, overblown action scenes and incredible plot twists. And by that, I mean ‘incredible’ both as ‘exciting’ as well as ‘lacking credibility’ – with brain computers and secret agent family members, it is quite ridiculous. But most importantly, this show has the amazing ability to make you care about and associate with, not just the main protagonists, but all the supporting characters, too.
