Another of the physics simulator, level based games, Red Remover is based around the simple premise of removing all red blocks from the screen by clicking on them. Simple? Now pay attention to the green blocks – you can’t lose any of them. Gravity? Let’s make that specific to each block, not general for the whole screen. And therein lies the complexity. Levers, inclined planes, wheels and springs – it’ll keep you interested. And yes, that’s right, you can tell by the screenshot to the left that I finished all (including the five extra) levels in bonus, spotlight mode – a productive day!

I know I shouldn’t blame Corrine Grant (the host of the debate) for the fact that the quote the debate was based around was incorrect (it’s the “love of money” that is the root of all evil – or so the saying goes), but she annoys me, so I will blame her. Maybe I’ll also blame her for the fact that neither Janeane Garofalo, Stephen K Amos nor Jason Byrne were even remotely funny. Yet, luckily the other three were, and the final result echoed the fact that one team had two amusing speakers, and the other only had only one.

It’s a shame that the best place to eat at the Melbourne Arts Centre really isn’t very good. I appreciate the idea of a modern spin on the tapas theme, with most plates intended to be eaten in groups. But the chef needs to understand that there’s more to designing dishes for sharing than simply cutting the food into small pieces. It seems that very little thought has gone into how the flavours from each dish will work together. Add that to the fact that it’s overpriced and has very little comfortable seating, and you might end up eating elsewhere.

It seems out of place, to have such a trendy little café right in the middle of a quaint town like Swansea. It’s slightly explained when you know that it’s a new venture by the folks as Spring Vale vineyard nearby – you can even taste their stuff there on days when the cellar door is closed. But we were there to sample their very limited breakfast menu (your choices are ham or salmon eggs Benedict). What is lucky, is that they do both of these well. Hollandaise isn’t an easy sauce to get right, but I guess they’ve had practice.

Here’s a clear example of me being directly influenced by TV advertising. I saw the Jila ads, and learnt about the new packaging (a tin, now) and that they’re Australian. And my choice was as simple as that. I’ve got mixed feelings about the tin. It looks cool, but you could never carry it around in your pocket because of the rattling noise. I’m also mixed about the flavour. On one hand, the spearmint is rounded and you don’t get too much fake sugar acidity that some sugar-free mint; but on the other, they’re not as strong as I’d like.

I don’t think I’m asking too much, am I? If I order a steak to be ‘rare’, I’ll let it slide if it comes to me ‘medium-rare’, but when it turned up ‘medium-well’ that’s when I have a problem. And this was the case with my dinner last night. But aside from this, Café Nova is a good place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It’s right in the bustle of Brunswick St without making you feel rushed, the staff are friendly, there’s an extensive bar (as well as being BYO), and aside from the steak issue, our food was good.
