Last weekend was the first time I’ve sat through a show of ‘Rove’, and I’m not going to do it again. The term ‘mindless’ can have positive connotations when you’re discussing the latest action blockbuster, but when you’re describing a chat-show, then there’s a real problem. Rove, himself, lacks all charisma and wit; Dave Hughes and Peter Helliar are just idiots, and I’m really not sure why Carrie Bickmore was there, at all – she hardly said a word. There are some laughs when Hamish and Andy step out of the studio for their own segment, but that’s pretty much it.
There’s a very simple way to describe how I felt about this movie – when the credits began, I laughed. This wasn’t because I thought the movie itself was funny; but rather, I was amused that this was the production team though they could pass off as a movie. There was really no legitimate story, and what plot was there was holeyer than Swiss-cheese. The characters were more underdeveloped than a hormone deficient three year-old, and the acting was shocking. And just when you thought thing were actually about to get exciting, the credits start to role. That’s when I laughed.
