Movie Review – Manhattan (1979) – 3.5 Stars

It’s hard to believe that ‘Manhattan’ is Woody Allen’s least favourite film out of all of his works. It seems to fit his style of filmmaking so well. Perhaps it has something to do with how close the themes are to Allen’s real life (in the film, Allen’s character dates a girl 25 years his junior). The characters have appeal, but you’d never want them as friends in real life. I like use of filming in black and white, highlighting the polarities that fill Isaac’s neurotic life, and how they’re mirrored in the city to which the film is dedicated.
